Why is telling our own story so hard to write? When I think of my life, I find it normal, average, even a bit boring. Don’t get me wrong, I love my life. It’s just hard to put in words, (at least for me.) As a child, stories for me were in the form of make believe. I loved to play dress up. I had a tan and pink floral dress that had been a prom dress of my mom’s, and I loved that thing. I wore and played in it almost every day. I was a princess locked in a tower, a bride walking down the aisle, even the evil queen. Those are some of my best childhood memories, and my vivid imagination has carried over into adulthood.
If you asked my mother (but please don’t) she’ll will tell you I live with my head in the clouds. I don’t I live there, but it’s my favorite vacation spot and I frequent it often. I didn’t find my love for reading until I was about 12. Some of my favorites were the Baby-sitters club, Little house on the Prairie, and Judy Bloom books. In high school I moved onto books a bit more scary. I loved Fear Street books by R.L. Stine and that whole genre back then of horror and suspense novels. But my favorite book I read in high school was The Giver by Lois Lourie. My English teacher would read us a chapter every class period. She didn’t want us to read ahead, so she had the school librarian pull all the copies so we couldn’t check them out. It made me look forward to class each day, but I hated the slow pace, so I went and bought my own copy and read the whole thing in one sitting (it’s not very long.) I still have that copy.
After college, I got serious about writing, but ended up taking a few detours. I think that happens to all of us in life. But here I am plugging away.
Today some of my favorite books include Can you Keep a Secret, by Sofie Kinsella. The Scorpio Races, by Maggie, Stiefvater The Way of Kings, by Brandon Sanderson, and Someday, Maybe, and Ugly Love by Coleen Hoover, plus many, many, more.
I love books; I love reading, and I love writing. I’m all about the happily ever after. I’m an Idaho native. (Well, almost I was born in Utah but only lived there for two weeks. Please don’t hold it against me.) I have a degree in biology with a minor in chemistry from Idaho State University. (Yes, I know it has nothing to do with writing, but at the time was the right thing for me.) I enjoy lots of things, road trips, crafts, refinishing old furniture, any sandy beach, bike riding, and swimming.
Thank you so much for checking out my website and reading my books. I hope you enjoyed reading them as much as I enjoyed writing them.
